RCBI: Rochester Center for Brain Imaging

Magnet and Its Capabilities

Siemens Trio 3T whole-body magnet

The heart of the RCBI is a Siemens Trio 3T whole-body magnet, with maximum gradient amplitude of 40 mT/m and a slew rate 200T/m/s. A standard birdcage head coil as well as an 8 channel phased array head coil (capable of parallel imaging using SENSE/GRAPPA) are available for brain studies. Pulse sequences installed on the Trio system allow capability for many types of research applications, including functional MRI (EPI-BOLD), conventional structural MRI (including T1 and T2 weighted and perfusion imaging), diffusion-weighted scans including diffusion tensor imaging (DTI - for imaging white matter tracts in the brain), and single- and multi-voxel spectroscopy.
